The more research scientists do, the more they learn how dangerous is the problem of free radicals and oxidative stress. An article from Reuters Online News Service reports that women who already have diabetes before getting pregnant are four times more likely to produce a child with a birth defect, such as Spina Bifida, Cleft Palate or heart defects.
